CityLab7 Project Synopsis and Impact

Our project explores a personalized, interactive system to understand, inform and encourage carbon-smart lifestyle choices at an individual, family, and community level. We approach this task through an urban immersion workshop held July 10-13, 2009, in Portland, Oregon, that includes brainstorming and mind-mapping, physical investigation, media and community research, and on-the-ground interviews.

We aspire to conceptualize a way for people to generate and exchange an everyday term or phrase that is as familiar as “mpg.”  This measure can then become a cultural currency, with an obvious and direct relationship to everyday decisions. Personal and community health will be related to global environmental health, linking the role of an individual to his or her community performance and to the larger ecosystem.
